Marloth Missive We were invited to a braai last night by some Indian expatriates who normally live in a secure golf estate in Johannesburg. They had some interesting comments about life in South Africa in general, and Marloth Park in particular. One of the families, whove lived in SA for 5 years, couldnt get over the fact that most South Africans have no idea who their neighbours are. In India they say, despite its massive population, neighbours are friends. In their opinion, this aloofness of South Africans leaves the door wide open for the kind of crime experienced in the country. Makes you think, doesnt it? Importantly, all four families at the braai love South Africa, especially its wide open spaces and excellent roads. Their only serious complaint is the very high price of food in SA! They all think Marloth Park is a wonderful place and that it offers exceptional value for money. We were visited by a Bushbaby and a Genet while we were at the braai, which added to their enjoyment of the place. We were less than 100m from the Lionspruit fence. All of a sudden, Fluffie let rip, his roars rattling the windows of the house and sending the women running inside in panic.! Its probably passed on in our DNA, this fear of lions. Even people hearing a lion roar for the first time instinctively know whats making that noise! Its really great to have your own love of MP shared by first time visitors, who say youre SO lucky to live here!
