Marsabit cabinet nominees grilled by committee WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY HUSSEIN SALESA Marsabit county cabinet nominees were yesterday grilled by the vetting committee. The committee, chaired by speaker Mathew Loltome, asked whether the nominees will discard their political and tribal realignments to serve the communities equally. Guracha Adhi Bidu, a former employee of the Kenya Investment Authority, was the first nominee to face the committee. Asked why he applied to head Treasury yet he is suited for Trade and Industry, Bidu said the economic planning part of his career coaxed him to Treasury adding that he had been drafting a plan for the investment authority. Golicha Sora, former chairman of the Borana Professionals Association, was tasked to convince the committee he can work without favouring any particular community to promote cohesiveness and unity. The Trade, Industry and Enterprise Development nominee said he showed his readiness by applying for the position against the will of the majority of his community. Sora said he will turn around development for the advancement of the county. He promised to establish a super abattoir in the county to enhance livestock marketing. James Aboran Dhokle told the committee that he will advocate for the registration of middlemen in the livestock business to eradicate the exploitation of the livestock farmers. He has been nominated to head the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries docket. Education, Skills Youth and Sports Development nominee Stephen Labarakwe said he will increase the remuneration for Early Childhood Education teachers. Others were, Hawo Abdullahi Ado (Administration, Coordination of County Affairs and ICT), Isacko Galgallo Mamo (Water, Environment and Natural Resource), Mohammed Konse Siba (Roads and Public Works), Yasmin Shariff Abdikadir (Energy, Lands and Urban Development). Mr Bidu who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kenyatta University and masters from university of Nairobi said he is best suited for the job due to his fourteen years experience that surpasses the constitutional requirement of five years. He pledged to separate family, community and political affiliation from his work in order to effectively serve the people. Dhokle a Kargi born father of one is currently pursuing masters in public health. the fourth person to be vetted by the committee. Mr. Labarakwe told the committee that he will increase of the ECD sector and come up with a policy that will ensure youth gets benefits from the sports. This he said is intended at curbing the youths from indulging in miraa chewing habits.
