Marshall v UAB Starting fast is the game plan for the Thundering Herd (5-3) this week when they play UAB (2-6). Then again....Starting fast has been Marshalls game the last three games. Marshall has averaged 50.5 points per game in home games this season and, most importantly, has started each of the last three games extremely fast. The Thundering Herd outscored its last three home opponents 59-0 in the first quarter en route to convincing wins. Such will be needed again this week. I think it is critical in any game to start fast and this will be no different. Hopefully we can get out of the gates here like we did a week ago. says Coach Doc Holliday. Marshall has failed to reach 31 points in a game just twice -- that being in the triple-overtime loss to Virginia Tech and in the win over Florida Atlantic. Dont be surprised if Marshall wins the toss and elects to take the ball in order to put points up and put UAB into a situation that could get them out of their game plan early. The UAB Blazers were able to dictate the tempo in their game last week against Middle Tennessee, rushing the football on their first 26 offensive plays. While the Blazers fell on a late field goal, they forced the Blue Raiders to adjust to their tempo, rushing 56 times while throwing just nine times. If we start off fast and we stop the run, they are going to have to pass the ball sooner or later, Marshall linebacker Evan McKelvey said. They cant run the football if we are up by 21 or something like that. The defense has to stop them, the offense has to continue doing what theyre doing. If we do that, UAB is in trouble. The Blazers, after jumping to a 24-point lead early in the third quarter, ground out a 38-31 win last season. What the Herd is really hoping for this Saturday is a different result, but what history tells the Herd, though, that nothing can be taken for granted. Date: Saturday Nov. 09, 2013 Location: Joan C.
