Martha Macomb Dinsmore is our beloved matriarch for the Dinsmore Family. She was the younger sister of General Alexander Macomb, a hero of the War of 1812. Martha was very progressive for her time; she married later in life (after she was educated and ready/on her own terms), she held & shared strong opinions with her husband (she had more of an equal partnership with James Dinsmore), and she insisted on formally educating her daughters (at a time when few boys were). We believe Martha is the reason the women in the following Dinsmore generations were emboldened to break away from stereotypical female expectations.
