Martin Luther King, Jr. day holds special significance for Habitat - TopicsExpress

Martin Luther King, Jr. day holds special significance for Habitat Omaha’s AmeriCorps members, who host and/or participate in activities honoring his legacy each year. This year, in addition to the MLK Day of Service, they celebrated his vision by holding a “Sunday Supper” on January 12. People from across the community came together to discuss the importance of diversity and hear from speakers, including Councilmen Ben Gray and Gary Gernandt, Pastor Darryl Eure of Freestone Baptist Church, a Habitat Omaha homeowner and others. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, but themes of love, acceptance and celebration of our community’s diversity emerged from all. Near the end of the night, Pastor Eure read a compilation of speeches originally given by Dr. King, a moment that certainly will not be forgotten by those in the room any time soon. Note: If you’d like to attend or get involved with next year’s MLK Sunday Supper, please contact Lula Plater-Smith at 402-884-3746 or [email protected].
