Martyrs arrest and trial live on Twitter The South West TUC has launched a live Twitter feed reporting on the arrest and trial of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The six farmworkers were arrested on February 24th 1934 and taken to Dorchester where they were charged with having participated in the administration of an illegal oath. To mark the event, and the subsequent trial that led them to be transported to Australia for seven years, the South West TUC is live tweeting events via @TolpuddleFest. Nigel Costley, Regional Secretary of the South West TUC, said: There is a lot of interest in the Martyrs story - how six humble farm labourers ended up changing history. We shall be tweeting key events in real time. Its a great way to make history come alive and to remember the hardship these brave men went through to enshrine in law the right to join a trade union.
