Kota Marudu Police Chief Supt Mohd Isa Yusuf said the accident resulted in the Chinese man from Kg Ongkilan in Kota Marudu to sustain slight injuries. Preliminary investigations showed that the man was driving a 10-tonne lorrry transporting stones and had to cross the eight metre long bridge to reach the project site. Unfortunately, it gave way just as he was crossing it in the 12.30pm incident, causing the lorry to plunge into the four-metre deep river, he said. A police team rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 12.40pm, while fire and rescue personnel assisted the man who was trapped in the lorry. Mohd Isa said they have alerted the Public Works Department for further action.
