Marvel Comics held a live press event at Midtown Comics Downtown in New York City this afternoon where they made some major Secret Wars announcements, promising major changes to the Marvel Comics Universe going forward. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and Senior Vice President of Publishing and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort kicked off Secret Wars Live, which was streamed online, confirming the end of the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe as they are combined into a new Marvel Universe, reminiscent of what DC Comics did with The New 52. Once we hit Secret Wars #1, there is no Marvel Universe, Ultimate Universe, or any other. Its all Battleworld, Brevoort revealed. The Marvel universe will be Battleworld, and every single piece of those worlds will be building blocks for the universe, added Alonso. Alonso has also teased the possibility of resurrecting dead characters during Secret Wars. If we wanted to resurrect Gwen Stacy this would be the place to do it. An interactive map of Battleworld will be available at Marvel identifying the different countries that exist, and what characters will be found in each, and what titles will feature which characters. A Secret Wars #0 issue, written by Jonathan Hickman will be available on Free Comic Book Day the first weekend of May. Included with the issue will be that Attack on Titan story featuring the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Originally published in Brutus Magazine back in November, this will be the first time its available outside of Japan. The #0 issue will be followed by oversized issues #1 and #2, as well as numerous new series, both ongoing and minis.
