Marvin Gaye’s Family Sue Robin Thicke Robin Thicke’s own words may work against him in the pending legal battle over his current hit track “Blurred Lines.” In August, Thicke filed a preemptive lawsuit denying that he and collaborators T.I. and Pharrell Williams stole the late soul singer’s “Got To Give It Up” single. Two of Gaye’s children are firing back. Nona and Frankie Christian Gaye, filed a countersuit against Thicke on Wednesday (Oct. 30), claiming he admitted to stealing the soul singers “Got To Give It Up,” to make “Blurred Lines,” then changed his tune. According to legal documents, the family cites Billboard and GQ interviews where Thicke noted the 1977 single as his “favourite of all time,” and admitted to wanting to make “something with that groove.” The suit goes on to allege that Thickes Love After War is a copy of Gayes dance hit After the Dance. Absent from the legal filing is Gayes other son, Marvin Gaye III, who vowed to sue Thicke, but recently suffered kidney failure. The family denied Thickes reported six-figure offer to keep the battle out of court, and is seeking profits and other damages from the hit single, which reached No. 1 in more than a dozen countries.
