Mary Anne Compton et al. Via Patricia H. MacEwen. One winter we kept inside 20 coin-sized Eastern Painted turtles, born late in the season in three places in our yard - so we set up three aquariums. 19 survived, far more than might have survived if they had to withstand the elements and predators outside. When warmer weather returned and they had grown to about 7 cms, we released them into the ponds we built in our yard, which then let them, at their option, stay or go to the small lake next to our yard. Sri Saravana, ethical question: were we tampering with nature - in what positive or negative ways?
