Mary Iritta Greene Johnson, 80 of Newton died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born June 14, 1933 in Avery County, NC she was the daughter of the late Edward Lenoir Greene and Charlotte Hicks Greene. Mary worked in Daycare Services for over 30 years. She also worked for Newton Glove Company. In addition to her husband of over 60 years, James Harold Johnson, Sr; and her parents; a brother, Teddy Bowers preceded her in death. A son, James Harold “Jimmy” Johnson, Jr. And wife Patty of Georgetown, SC; a sister, Gail Pritchard of Elk Park, NC; a brother, Fred Bowers and wife Sylvia of Minneapolis, NC; and a grand-son, Seth Johnson survive her. The funeral will be 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Byers will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Jenkins Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3:30-4:45 on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1560 Nathaniel Street, Newton, NC 28658
