Mary Kay I just wanted to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity to come to Cochabamba and work with MIMA. I feel so blessed to have been able to work with such a wonderful group of people on such an amazing mission to help those in need. I never got to tell you this while you were here but I have wanted to tell you this for many years. That day, 20 years ago, when I was helping MIMA to pack for the inaugural mission trip to Cochabamba was one of the most influential moments of my life. After my mother came back to the US and told me the stories and showed me the pictures of the wonderful work your team did here, it stayed with me for a long time. I never thought I wanted to be a nurse, in fact I thought it was the last thing I wanted to be. Several years later, during my freshman year of college, I met a girl who was going into nursing and she told me she wanted to be a nurse anesthetist one day. At the time I had thought I wanted to be a lawyer or judge, but had become disillusioned with that path. When she mentioned CRNA, something clicked and I thought of you. I thought of how you organized this trip and how your exceptional skills as a nurse anesthetist had helped so many less fortunate people to survive, and how grateful they were. I remembered that my mom told me about Bau and how you helped to save his life, and then gave him a future in the US. I knew that day that I would everything I could to become a CRNA and follow in your footsteps, making a difference one patient at a time. When it came time to write my personal statement for CRNA school last year, there was no doubt that I would write about you and the difference you made in peoples lives, and how if I could do 1/100 of what you have done for others , then I would consider my life a whopping success. Maybe it was fate that we met then, but I will never forget that day. Actually being able to work with you here in Bolivia was a dream come true for me. I really hope one day I can return here as a CRNA and work under your guidance. I have never really said this to anyone and meant it , but you are my hero and I want to be just like you when I grow up. Sincerely Michael Kientz
