Mary Lou Bruner via Mike Wolfe And to think that some of the founding fathers considered selecting the turkey as our National Bird because wild turkeys were so plentiful in the colonies! Turkeys are stupid birds. When I first moved where I live now the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department must have released some wild turkeys in the woods near where I live. Eight wild turkeys came up to my house and some of them stood on my front porch. The next time I saw them the number was greatly reduced. Then I did not see them any more. The bobcats or the coyotes may have caught them or someone may have had turkey for dinner. The eagle was chosen to represent the USA because the eagle is so regal and free and so elegant. The eagle does not have a white head when it is young. The white head feathers come later with maturity. The white head of the eagle reminds us of a person with white hair who has learned much from his life experiences. The eagle roosts in high places and can see far down the road. We should not choose turkeys for our leaders just because they are plentiful. We should choose eagles who are rare, but wise.
