When you first came to Lewisburg two summers ago, it was incredible to have you here, helping us to learn more about communication and literacy for Eleanor. As you put hours and hours into making a PODD for her, it was overwhelming to see the time, energy, and passion you gave. What I didnt understand, but I think you did, was the incredible opportunity you were also giving us to be able to make a difference in other kids lives. From that one, lonely PODD communication book, introduced into Eleanors school, has come - in less than two years! - PODDs for children in districts across Central PA, as well as the sea-change in belief in competency that accompanies them. Shanna Hess made me cry (for wonderful reasons!) at Eleanors IEP meeting this morning. She told amazing stories of the doors that are opening up for non-verbal students in districts all around us, simply because these children are finally being given a meaningful way to communicate. You, working in my dining room, night after night at 4am, were helping not just Eleanor but so many others, too. Thank you, from the utmost bottom of my heart, for giving us an opportunity to be a part of that. It is one of the most precious gifts, ever.
