Mary, Model of Humility Humility is a most common-sense virtue. - TopicsExpress

Mary, Model of Humility Humility is a most common-sense virtue. Yet it is, perhaps, the least common virtue found among men. Humility is nothing more nor less than a realization of the truth concerning ourselves and an acknowledgement of the same. Mary was the very soul of humility. She knew what it meant to be a creature. She realized the infinite distance between God and the works of His hands. She knew that it is madness for a created being to dream of independence in its relations with its Creator. With such convictions it was impossible for Mary to be proud - to arrogate unwonted honors to herself. Humility is wisdom. Its practice brings a rich reward. "Whosoever humbles himself shall be exalted" Thus Mary, from the lowly station of an unknown village maid was raised to the grandest dignity possible to womankind - to be the Mother of her Creator. What of myself? Have I a deep conviction of my nothingness? Without humility I shall make a fool of myself before God and man. A proud man is ever unhappy. It galls him to have to obey. He suffers at the success of others. He brings upon himself the odium of his fellow men. And, worse by far, he endangers his immortal soul. Pride cast Lucifer from the portal of heaven to the depths of hell. Humility raised Mary from the station of a village maid to that of Mother of God. Holy Mary, Model of Humility, pray for me.
