Mass Signature campaign and protest meeting organized Protesting proposed amendment of RTI Act - 2005 On 6.8.13, A Mass Signature Campaign and protest meeting was oragnised by Odisha Suchana Adhikar Abhijan at Lower PMG public demonstration space, Bhubaneswar amidst heavy rainfall opposing UPA Govt’s cabinet decision to amendment RTI Act in the forthcoming parliament session. A large number of the people including journalists, advocates, RTI Activists, intellectuals, students participated and signed on the cloth wall and presented a signed memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister demanding withdrawal of the amendments. Around 200 Activists gathered and raised their protest against arbitrary, unlawful and unethical use of power of the Central Govt. to keep political parties out of the ambit of the RTI Act. Addressing the press, Sri Pradip Pradhan, State Convener of OSSA and National Working Committee member of NCPRI, said that this protest was the part of the national campaign called for protest against the arbitrary decision of the UPA Govt. If the Political parties have difference of opinion, they can go to the court. But why they are using parliament to satisfy their vested interest, he said. Prominent political and public figures of the state Sri Rabi Das, Senior Journalists; Sri Panchanan Kanungo, former Finance Minister, Odisha, Sri Biswajit Mohanty, Member, Transparency International, Dr. Digambar Satapathy, former Member, OPSC had participated in the programme and expressed their solidarity with the movement. RTI Activists Sri Tapan Padhi, Sri Jayant Das, Nilambar Mishra, Lalit Mishra coordinated the programme.
