Massive thanks to everyone who attended our pool comp yesterday and made the day a great success. 15 entrants took to the back table in what was a high quality field boasting 9 county A players. Was nice to see the younger players from town Callum Cockayne Ryan Jones and Luke Williams all entering and testing themselves, although all lost in the first round to Osian Lewis, Gareth Fuzz Jones and Mark Gaskell respectivly, they clearly have bright futures ahead. In other notable first round matches I defeated an out of sorts Rob Davies, whilst Scotty Davies overpowered Robert Griffiths in a match characterised by missed chances, Carlos Doubleit Clark made short work of Gwri whilst Wendy Edwards dispatched Alex Jarman in a match that could have gone either way. In the Quarters, Rob Salmoncatcher Lewis benefitting from a first round bye fought back from 2-0 down only to finally succumb 3-2 to Osian Lewis in a gruelling match, the longest of the day. Gazza and Carl both had quarter final scares against Fuzz and myself respectively before progressing with both matches being defined by missed chances. The semi line up was completed when Wendy upped her game and took a notable scalp in Scotty showing scant regard for his high average in division 1 with some clinical finishing. Onto the semis where Carl showed his pedigree dispatching Wendy with relative ease with the latter showing signs of fatigue and maybe a little alchohol. Osian took Gazza all the way only to fall at the final hurdle in a final frame decider. That left Carl v Gazza in the final the days two outstanding players, where attacking play from both players resulted in Carl victorious 3-1. Although the day was long spirits were kept high notably from Alan Murphy appearing to referee from the quarters with a somewhat questionable interpretation of the rules, although after that much Guinness fully understandable and John Cushty Rogers rolling back the years with some inspired jukebox selections and throwing some shapes worthy of strictly. Impromptu singing broke out to Angels with Fuzz, Osian and Alan belting it out. On the bar table speed pool had been running all day with Scotty claiming the fastest time with 56.9 and Rocket throwing his entire Xmas bonus at trying to better it. The ladies speed pool was won by Mandy Cockburn-Powell narrowly pipping Claire Owen by a second.
