Mastitis: I always thought this was a bacterial infection caused from outside bacteria. Had a friend who lost a dairy cow due to this - the udder turned ganggreen almost overnight. There is a vaccine for cattle that we have started using for our dairy cows - Ecoli -(cant remember the rest of it, but will get the info, vaccinate 3 weeks before calving and 30 days after dry up. In watching a show on RFD TV a vet was talking about mastitis and interesting: caused when they start making milk and some cells peel off and become infected - same happens when they dry up. I have given the shots this year and waiting for my one cow to calve. Interesting - need to do more research as Im thinking it could work on goats as well
