Match Report - 2nd November 2014 It was the second round of Champions League Group Stage matches tonight at Ball Lane, with some vital games with sides looking to take a step forward in qualifying for the semi-finals. The match report for each fixture as follows:- Group A Call of Guti 2 v 1 Almighty Average (Roye, Boulden; Croucher) Both sides lost their opening fixtures last week meaning this was a must win game for both. Guti were thumped 6-0 by Premier League Champions Athletico Kebab and Almighty were beaten 2-0 by Division One side Charing FC. Almighty, who were missing a few key players, started well with Dan Jackson testing the keeper early on and Billy Curtis also curled an effort just wide of the post. Guti were defending well but struggled to get going up top and the sides were level at half time. In the second half, Almighty continued to press and a fine solo effort from Ryan Croucher, taking it past two defenders and sending the keeper the wrong way, put Almighty in front. This seemed to spark Guti into life and they started to dominate the game from then on and deservedly found an equaliser through Jermaine Roye after a fine doubled save from the Almighty keeper. Both sides continued to press but it was Guti who would snatch the points with a fine ball from Roye controlled well by Matt Boulden, who then dummies the keeper before slotting home in a fine goal. Guti could have added further goals but Almighty keeper Cabbage had a fine game and Guti took the points, keeping their slim hopes of progressing to the semi-finals alive. Charing FC 3 v 1 Athletico Kebab (Pearce 2, Raggett; A.Neaves) In a potential game of the night, Premier League Champions Athletico Kebab face Division One Charing - with both sides in fine form. Both sides won convincingly last week and a win for either side will almost guarantee a route to the semi-finals. In a tight opening, it was Charing who started the better in terms of possession but it was Athletico Kebab who grabbed the opener in fortuitous circumstances with Tiny Neaves squaring across the box and the keeper misjudged and it ended up in the back of the net. Charing continued to keep the ball but found the Kebab rear guard in good form with their keeper Matt Scott pulling off several fine saves to ensure Kebab went in 1 goal up. Charing started the second half as bright as they did the first and it seemed as the clock ticked that Kebab would hold in but with 10 minutes remaining, a fine team moves was finished well by Matt Pearce bringing Charing level. Athletico then began to push and Matt toe-poked one wide but it was Charing who snatched the next goal, with the lively Pearce finishing well from a tight angle. With Athletico pressing for an equaliser, Charing added a third on the counter with Ben Raggett sliding home from close range in a fine 3-1 win for Charing. Group B Team Heskey 6 v 3 Team Melt (Awaiting Heskey scorers; Peters, Antrum, Big D) Team Heskey stunned Premier League side Lolzors last week with an impressive 2-0 win and theyll be looking to make it back-to-back victories this week, facing Team Melt. Melt lost last week due to no attendance and theyll be looking to get back to winning ways tonight. Unfortunately for Melt, they found Heskey in fine form and three early strikes with only a Ross Peters response for Melt ensured Heskey took a 3-1 lead at the break. In the second half, both sides were creating plenty of chances, with the Heskey keeper in particular in fine form denying Melt on many occasions but a fine Ross Antrum strike brought Melt back into it. With Melt pushing for an equaliser, it was vital they got the next goal but it was Heskey who added a fourth on the counter with Brad Sharpe finishing well - and from then on there was only one winner. Heskey added a further two goals with Big D adding a third for Melt, meaning Heskey took the points and will now face second placed Moves Like Dejagah next week for a place in the Champions League Semi-Finals. Lolzors 0 v 2 Moves Like Dejagah (Teehan, Kenyon) Lolzors faced Moves Like Dejagah in the second game in Group B, with the former looking to win this game following their shock defeat last week. Dejagah won convincingly last week and look favourites to win this group but face tough opposition in Lolzors. Both sides started brightly and were creating chances that tested both keepers ability in the soggy conditions. Midway through the first half, it was the newly promoted Dejagah that drew first blood, with Teehans fine finish from close range. That scoreline was immediately under threat as Slingsby and French tested the Dejagah keeper who was equal to the shots. The second half continued as first ended, with both teams attacking when they had the ball. With both teams having plenty of chances, each team relied heavily on the performance of their back line and keepers. With the game finely balanced in the last few minutes, it was Kenyon of Dejagah who doubled their advantage, slotting the ball home. Lolzors pressed to find the net, but found the Dejagah keeper in fine form to keep a clean sheet for his side and ensured the points were Dejagahs. Group C NotInMyMums Forest 3 v 2 Rockaway United (Accott 2, Drylan ;Cooper, Hopkins) Forest faced Rockaway United, a game which if Forest won, theyd take a big step to guaranteeing progression into the semi-finals. Forest laboured to a 1-0 win over Queens Head last week but with Rockaway losing last week, they were favourites to win this one. The game started as expected, with Forest enjoying spells of possession and 2 well placed shots from Acott soon found his side 2 goals up. Rockaway awoke, and created some good chances themselves, with Billy Cooper and George French both going close. After a Rockaway attack broke down, Michael Drylan added his sides third of the evening from a fast counter attack. In the second half, Rockaway grouped well, and played some fine football. Cooper took a long shot, which took a deflection away from the keeper and into the net to give Rockaway a way back into the game. With growing confidence, Rockaway suddenly found themselves pressing Forest and grabbed a second from a fine finish from Steve Hopkins. With just a goal in it, the final five minutes were a nervy affair, with both teams pressing and trying to create chances. Right at the death, Rockaways French had an effort saved well by the Forest keeper, and Acott was denied his hattrick with a fine save from the Rockaway keeper the last touch of the game. Queens Head 0 v 3 Ashford No-Stars (Hamilton, ODonoghue, Robinson) Queens Head faced Ashford No-Stars in the final game of the night. No-Stars earned a fine 3-0 win over fellow Division One side Rockaway United last week and could cause a shock tonight against Queens Head, with the relegated pub sued struggling this season. Queens Head started the game missing a few of their key players and it showed in the early stages as Ashford No-Stars started much the brighter and after a few early efforts saved well from Queens Head keeper James Sutton, Carl Hamilton made it four goals in 2 games finishing well from close range. Before Queens could muster a response, it was two with Dan ODonoghue striking home and within minutes of that, Shane Robinson went on a mazy run and fired in off the keeper to give No-Stars a 3-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Queens improved but couldnt really find a way back and it was No-Stars who almost made it four with Robinson curling a fine effort off the post - but they took the points and will face NotInMyMums Forrest next week for a place in the semi-finals. Team of the Week:- Goalkeeper Sid Barton (Moves Like Dejagah) Despite the blustery conditions, made several fine saves for his side, earning a clean sheet in the process. Defender Shane Robinson (Ashford No-Stars) Fine game at the back, creating chances before scoring after a fine run. Defender Scott Carpenter (Charing FC) Solid throughout for his side and unlucky to not score a fine long range volley. Midfield/Attack Matt Boulden (Call of Guti) Scored a fine goal and was unlucky not to have another. Credit also to his team mate Jermaine Roye who also scored and assisted another. Midfield/Attack Matt Pearce (Charing FC) Instrumental in his sides 3-1 win over Athletico Kebab, scoring 2 goals. Striker Jack Accott (NotInMyMums Forest) Scored two and should have had a few more in his sides win over Rockaway United. Goal of the Week:- Matt Pearce (Charing FC) After a fine team move that split the Kebab defence, Matt was on hand to finish brilliantly at the far post. Fine team goal. Save of the Week:- Matt Scott (Athletico Kebab) Pulled off a fine finger-tip save to deny a fine long range volley on to the near post.
