Match Report - Tankerton Seniors vs Pilgrims - 1st November 2014 The wind blew fiercely across Seaview on a bitterly cold Sunday morning as we entered November. Tankerton were playing for the first time in three weeks with their last game being the demolition of Tankerton Colts 9-0. This week they were up against Pilgrims who had beaten the Colts 3-1 earlier on in the season. However with the visitors having an unbeaten start to the season, the home side knew this wouldnt be easy. Tankerton started with the following eleven - Crane, Whyte, Agada, Bardrick (C), White, Todd, Russell, Radford, Roffe, Mearns and Webb - with Ginnaw and Finch as the two substitutes. Tankerton started the game the stronger with the majority of possession and looking the most likely to make the break through. Webb and Mearns both had chances to put the home side ahead however their attempts were off the mark. Tankerton then became frustrated at their inability to gain the break through which gave Pilgirms the opportunity to get some control in the game. Soon a counter attack down the left caused Pilgrims to take the lead in what many would agree was a deserved manner. This caused many of Tankertons heads to drop and Pilgrims came straight back at the home side. Soon the visitors took a shock 2-0 lead in a controversial manner. The Pilgrims attacker seemed to be offside when he received the ball clear on goal. However neither the linesman or referee gave the decision much to the disbelief of the Tankerton defenders. Tankerton then began to play as they did at the start of the game. The home side got a goal back when Webb finally converted a chance to cut Pilgrims lead to just 1 before the break. The second half started much like the first ended. Tankerton were the dominant force and were in search of the equaliser. Pilgrims saw very little of the ball and struggled to threaten the home side as a result. Tankerton however just couldnt get the break through. The remainder of the half saw Tankerton hit the bar three times (the most notable a back-heeled flick from Russell). Pilgrims could have gone 3-1 ahead at one point however their effort was cleared off the line. However the home side would be the ones who would dominate the second 45 creating the lion share of the games chances and looking deserved of at least a point. But Pilgrims would see the game out maintaining their 100% start to the season. For Tankerton, they dropped to their second defeat of the campaign as they look forward to playing Woodnesborough next week. By Adam Whyte
