Match Report 11/11/14 Venue: TDS Stadium Team A Luke Lane Adrian Barnes Richard Harper Richard Arnold Jonny Devaney James Lewis Team B Tony Brown Ben Smith Lee Street Nathan Evans Tom Hemming Neil Cresswell Team A: 7 Team B: 5 ADRIANS BALL! Barnes and the boys edge thriller It was a case of no place like home for our TNF stars, after all the talk of venue now seemingly behind them they returned to their spiritual home, the TDS stadium. With stars such as Hyde, Stone and Foster Agg missing through injury, parenthood and charity events many may have thought the quality of the game may suffer, how wrong they were. As the players lined up in the tunnel (once Street had finished trying to chat up the girl behind the counter) and Tony and Lewis swapped shirts before the game (that’s a new one). Finally we had a game on, and what a game! Lane tried a new controversial system, playing himself in a more defensive roll and asked Lewis to play as a striker, bit like asking the McCann’s to babysit you kids, the move proved to be as successful the Nazi’s decision to invade Poland, with B dominating the early exchanges, Hemming getting the look of the bounce to give them the lead, there was nothing lucky about his second, invaded his marker and stuck beautifully into the bottom corner stunning goal. A at this point where in trouble, Lane and Harper didn’t look like they spoke the same language constantly in each other’s way, and despite a couple of decent moments B found themselves in a 5-2 lead, Brown scoring twice the second a lovely header from a Smith flick, and when Hemming made it 5 looked gave over. However A rallied, Arnold and Lane wouldn’t let their sides head’s drop, and suddenly Yeovil Town became Real Madrid. Lane pushed into a more advanced roll and Devaney dropped into the hole pulling the strings, Barnes Harper and Arnold made great runs forward and B suddenly had no answers. Gaps began to appear, Lane, Arnold and Harper got it back to 5-5 before the much maligned Lewis struck one into the top corner to make it 6-5, Lewis could have had another but Cresswelll opted to ignore the new strict no slide tackle rule to bring him down whilst clean through. All eyes where on the goalkeeping skills of Lewis, Lane and Smith after much talk in the build, whilst Lane performed admirably, Lewis kept a clean sheet with little to do and Smith well....... He went in goal aswell. the game was hard fort and competitive right till the end, even when Lane made it 7 the opposition kept, until some people where on the pitch, they thought it was all over, it was then. Player ratings Team A Luke Lane... 7.5/10 Poor start struggled badly, once moved into his more familiar attacking role played much better, always lookong to shoot Jonny Devaney... 8/10 Another who struggled to get going but once he was up and running pulled all the strings, great passing and created countless chances Adrian Barnes... 7.5/10 Richard Arnold... 8/10 Galvanised his teams comeback, great runs down the left caused constant problems, rock defenceivly as ever Richard Harper... 8/10 Mixed start to game, him Lane practically fell over each other at some points, scored the goal that got His team back in it, 3 weeks injury free! Tom Hemming... 7/10 What has happened to the one time poster boy of TNF, tooks his goals well but missed other easier chances, passing was off aswell Ben Smith... 7/10 Never gives less than 100% but 1 win in 10 isnt, got frustrated towards the end as his side struggled, spent 10 mins putting his toys back in his pram after the game Nathan Evans... 7/10 Not his strongest week, as Richard Arnold said youve got to be pretty good to wear boots like that normally he is, didnt happen for him tonight, no lack of effort Lee Street... 7/10 Ladies man Lee joins Smith in the worrying run of form catergory, all the skills and twists and turns and effort, end product just not quite happening for him Neil Cresswell... 7/10 Spent more time on the floor than a heroin addict looking for loose change, defended brilliantly as ever but could of taken more time to pick passes wen clearing, good to see him push forward You will all be pleased to know im having a week off the review next week chairman lane will be back, we will also be writing a special Xmas 2014 review very soon!
