Match Report: London Media 7 - 27 Old Emmanuel London Media acquitted themselves honourably on their first competitive fixture of the season against a well drilled Old Emmanuel outfit. With the kit rumoured to be in the South of France and Michael Logue’s short-cut through the Big Yellow Storage Company seemingly not the most direct route, Media’s preparation time was limited. Despite an early break of our line for the first score, we struck back after some intricate forward play from the line out opening the space for Matt Barnes to cross. Justin expertly slotted the extras. Later in the half the referee seemingly warned our industrious 10 for being “too South African”. With the conditions not favouring flowing rugby, the first half was dominated by physical exchanges in midfield. Jonnie almost scored an early contender for try of the season after being released by Nick Sunnick’s subtle offload. His kick ahead and gather was ruled out for not exerting control, something Jonnie swore after the game would have been given if the TMO system he is accustomed to had been available. A well worked set piece from Emannuel put them back into the lead, but with the game finely poised, we were reduced temporarily to 14 men when I was (harshly in my view) sinbinned at the breakdown. A couple of quick fire tries at the start of the second-half gave Emmanuel full control but Media continued to compete in all facets, and were unlucky not to convert a couple of half breaks. All-in-all, a very decent effort against opponents in the league above who had been training together since June. If we had capitalised on a couple of superb individual half-breaks, the result could have been closer, but regardless, it was a solid first game of the season with plenty of positives to take away.
