Match Report: PC 1XI 6-1 LC 2XI In blustery conditions Lowestoft College 2XI travelled to Paston College for their first friendly of the season. The interesting surface somewhat thwarted any hope of a aesthetic match from the offset however Lowestoft College started brightly with Gibson providing multiple set pieces onto the head of Wilson who could not find the target. Early changes for each team almost saw both teams take the lead with skipper Jordan Gurney pulling off some excellent early saves whilst at the other end Arther Rzeszutek hit the bar from close range for the visitors following up an excellent piece of work by Kieron Cliff. The visitors pressure started to tell with some more fine work from Cliff resulting in a corner. Another fine delivery from Gibson eventually dropped to the feet of Reeve to neatly slot home. More pressure from the visitors almost saw this lead extended further with shots for both Cliff and Gibson narrowly missing the target with Reeve again turning provider. A fortunate break for the home team forced a corner late into the first half where a wind assisted delivery resulted in a messy opener for the home team. From the resulting kick off a lapse in concentration further cost the visitors when the chasing Paston forward somehow found himself 1 on 1 with keeper Gurney to make it 2-1 going into the break. As both teams changed ends so sadly did the wind which was to be the source of Lowestoft terror into the second half. Lowestoft were immediately on the back foot and an early strike saw Paston further their lead. Further changes saw Lowestoft create chances with the lively Turrell whipping in a dangerous ball for the unmarked Deal to strike wide. Cliff then turned provider as Lowestoft looked to regain a foothold in the game as he slid through for Rzeszutek to again hit the woodwork from close in. Rzeszutek was starting to wonder if he had broken gods favourite crayon as another fine ball from Cliff left him with a 1 on 1 opportunity that was expertly saved and dealt with by the home team. As Lowestoft again pushed forward Paston hit hard on the counter attack punishing the visitors with another smart finish. More sustained pressure applied by the home team resulted in more fine stops from Gurney however Paston scored again in quick succession to put the game to bed. Further pressure was applied by the visitors with Reeve again working hard to create chances for Cliff and even some distance strikes from Wilson were not enough to trouble the keeper. As the final whistle loomed Paston had one more sting in the tail when a fine solo run and thumping top corner finish left Lowestoft feeling hard done by and ruing the earlier missed chances. Many positives can be taken from the performance with the result proving a little flattering towards the visitors.
