Match Report SNC 1-5 LC The first league fixture of the season got underway with Lowestoft College traveling to Suffolk New College Ipswich. After minor delays the game eventually got underway with Lowestoft College immediately on the front foot against physical opponents. This physicality eventually got the better of the hosts when Romeo was impeded in the penalty area. Captain Gibson took the resulting kick blasting over however shortly made amends smartly latching onto a Westoby through ball to smartly dispatch past the oncoming keeper. Lowestoft continued to press their opponents however a series of lucky breaks allowed the ball to fall kindly from a corner to a Suffolk New College defender nicknamed ‘Rooney’ (based more upon his appearance than skill) to bundle over the line. Lowestoft quickly responded with the lively Westoby thumping home a strike from 20 yards crashing off the underside of the bar to restore the lead for the visitors much to the dismay of the vocal home support. This sparked a spell of possession for the home team who looked to react however an excellent goal line clearance from Faulkner kept the score at 2-1 going into half time. Lowestoft came out brightly after the break with continued pressure which was eventually rewarded when the skillful Carinhas fed substitute Turrell who crossed neatly oncoming sub Galrinho to further Lowestoft’s lead. This goal appeared to particularly annoy the hosts who subsequently adopted a more physical approach when dealing with the visitors. Some excellent defending from Clay, Wilson, Barley & Baker and some superb rearguard action from Gurney prevented the hosts from regaining a foothold in the game. It was eventually decided when a quick break from Lowestoft resulted in a corner which was nailed in at the backpost by a defender. This sparked a late surge from Lowestoft with Lee who was smartly played through by the tricky Carinhas to slot home to secure 3 points for the visitors. A quality team performance by all with particular credit going to the Lowestoft side for their overall conduct and professionalism in the face of some disappointing sportsmanship from their opponents.
