Kettering came into the game unbeaten at home and St Ives were unbeaten away. Ex Kettering player Will Muzvimbiri almost gave St Ives the lead in only the second minute as he nearly latched onto a cross and Steve Kinniburgh scrambled the ball away for a corner. Kettering countered and Jonatahan Thorpe saw his cross from the right cleared away. The Poppies went ahead in the 5thminute. Dubi Ogbonna challenged keeper Adam Lawrence and blocked the clearance.Ogbonna hooked the ball goalwards and Will Fordham headed off the line, against the bar only to see Andy Hall lash in the loose ball. The Poppies surged forward and James Clifton’s left foot drive was just wide of the left upright. Andy Gooding then beat his man and also fired just wide. St Ives managed a shot on 13 minutes as Ben Seymour-Shove hit a free kick high and wide. Six minutes later it was 2-0. Hall got in a cross from the left and the ball fell to Ogbonna and his shot was diverted into the net by Brett Solkhon. Ogbonna was on fire now and a precision through ball saw Gooding just unable to get that final touch as Lawrence gathered. However on 25 minutes Ogbonna got a goal out of nowhere. Picking the ball up on the right side of the penalty area he chipped the ball up and past the defender and hit a low left foot shot which hit the back of the net before the keeper moved. St Ives gradually got forward and forced some corners and long throws- which the home defence managed to cope with albeit that Fordham was winning some knock-ons. From one clearance, Seymour-Shove had a shooting chance but blazed over. Brett Solkhon fired over for Kettering and on 36 minutes the visitors had their best chance to date. Muzvimbiri ran onto a loose ball and collided with Jamie McAlindon just after he headed the ball- and the effort was just wide of the right post. A rare Steve Kinniburgh misplaced pass let in Stuart Eason just before the break, but the striker fired wide. The miss proved costly for St Ives as Kettering scored a fourth on 44 minutes.Hall’s corner on the left saw Solkhon head firmly in from close range. It had been a great half of football from the Poppies. Half Time: Kettering Town 4 - 0 St Ives Town The second half started where the first half had ended with Kettering on the attack. Gooding fired over and then Ogbonna did the same from a great ball by Thorpe. In the 57thminute the lights went out as the main fuse blew at Latimer Park putting everything in darkness. Fortunately help was at hand and repairs were made to allow the game to continue 25 minutes later. The final 33 minutes were something of an anti climax as the game was already won. Andy Hall saw an effort go high and wide and in the next minute another low shot forced a good save from Lawrence. Alfie Taylor was on after 65 minutes and he shot wide five minutes later. St Ives’ Hall,Jonathan, fired wide on 75 minutes and four minutes later only a great clearance from Luke Smith prevented Thorpe’s cross from reaching Taylor. The final minutes saw Seymour-Shove glance a header wide from a great position; Clifton fired wide for Kettering and McAlindon was out of his area to clear from Seymour-Shove with a sliding challenge. With thanks to the electrical experts the Poppies took all three points in a convincing display. Full Time: Kettering Town 5 - 0 St Ives Town Attendance: 645
