Match Results: Under 10 year-olds, Friday, Oct. 3rd Bemahague Indoor Courts Good morning all Corinthians and supporters out there. I hope you are having a great weekend, and enjoying your early Saturday morning. I’m in a very good space this morning actually, after watching two of our young Corinthian teams (under 10 and under 14 year-olds) giving their best last night. Although two separate locations, different games and age-groups, two themes remained constant across the Douglas skies last night: one being the constant rain, and the other was the true black and white Corinthian spirit! The 10 year-olds showed up to the match in great spirits, and were ready for any challenge to be thrown their way. And indeed, a challenging night it was. The first match against Onchan Athletic started off very well, with our black and whites showing great possession of the ball, as well as movement all over the pitch. An unlucky goal towards the end of the short match didn’t give the Corinthians a chance to reclaim points, which would better reflect a good performance. Onchan Athletic 1 – 0 Corinthians The second match against the Union Mills Girls was a tough one, but well done Corinthians!! Coverage and ball possession were again mighty impressive. Although Union Mills did manage to find our net, Mikey Brennan scored a fantastic goal. Again, a short match didn’t enable the Corinthians to further build on their momentum and score more. Corinthians 1 – 1 Union Mills Girls Continuing to the third match against Onchan Rovers, it appeared as if we encountered the same phenomenon against both Onchan teams, where the Corinthians did work very hard and created opportunities. Unfortunately though, opportunities didn’t always materialize for the Black and whites last night. Onchan Rovers 3 – 0 Corinthians The fourth and last game against Laxey was probably the biggest challenge of them all, with Laxey showing a very strong side, but the Corinthians continuously fighting and standing their grounds. Despite the evening that got late, and our players being after a full school day and having played three matches already, they were all working hard on the pitch, with Rory Nelson scoring a great goal. And again, as luck was not always on our side last night, we were again very close to what could have been the night’s victory for our Black and White side. Laxey 2 – 1 Corinthians To conclude, it is obviously great to win, and this is why we are all in the game at the end of the day. Still, it was great to see the Corinthians playing these matches last night, as they sure demonstrated that they have the qualities it takes to be winners. In all matches, the players were spread all over the pitch, ran the ball, passed to each other and were displaying a true team spirit that then led them to numerous opportunities, which is some cases (not enough, in my eyes, as I said - luck was not on the Black and White side last night) ended up in goals. Also notable was the defense was also notable, with Black and White shirts being all over the opposition. Again, as mentioned above, the players worked very hard running up and down the court. And last but not least, I was most impressed by the very upbeat mood and motivation of these young Corinthian lads brought with them last night. Great job guys, just keep up the good team effort, and I’m sure we will see many wins in the near future!!! Go Corinthians!!!
