Northwood player-manager, Mark Burgess did not include himself in the squad. The Poppies ripped into the Northwood defence from the kick-off and were a goal up inside two minutes. A slick move involving Andy Hall and Andy Gooding set up Dubi Ogbonna with a chance and he stepped inside on the left and lashed the ball past the helpless Berkley Laurencin. Northwood then won a free kick for a foul on Jack Smith, and Mason Yorke’s free kick from 19 yards came off keeper, Jamie McAlindon and was cleared. The Kettering attacks were now relentless as Josh Moreman saw a shot blocked and a follow up effort saved after another good build up; James Clifton fired just wide and Hall saw a shot blocked. Next Ogbonna’s shot was well saved by Laurencin and Ross Oulton’s deflected shot was saved. Only 12 minutes had gone by this stage. Another superb move saw Hall’s curling cross from the left just beat the onrushing Ogbonna at the far post. The second goal, however, on 17 minutes was unexpected in as much as Ogbonna’s gentle cross cum shot from the right crept through a packed defence to roll in at the far post. Then Gooding’s free kick on 22 minutes was just tipped over by Laurencin. The Woods’ George Nicholas was yellow carded after a flare up on 27 minutes as his studs raked Andy Gooding’s neck in a potential retaliation following a foul by the Kettering midfielder. Ogbonna then saw his direct free kick saved. It was 3-0 on 31 minutes. Superb control by Oulton took him into the penalty area and he was brought down by Nick Turner. Ogbonna completed his hat-trick with a well taken penalty. Josh Moreman’s turn and shot saw a good save by the keeper – but the Poppies scored a second penalty on 41 minutes. Hall was sent away down the left and got past Alex Nolan – only to be fouled by Steve Brown. After protests by the visitors, Gooding stepped up to net the spot kick. There was still time for Clifton to test the keeper with a stinging left foot drive. Half Time: Kettering Town 4 - 0 Northwood Woods Manager, Mark Burgess, made two changes at half time to try to rejuvenate his team. The Poppies could soon have increased their lead as, on 50 minutes, Ogbonna was clear on the right, but Laurencin made a good save. Five minutes later a free kick at the other end saw Lawrence’s effort sail over the bar. Northwood were getting more of the ball now as the Poppies seemed to ease off a little. Nevertheless, Kettering’s Moreman created an opening on 62 minutes and as he raced clear Laurencin was off his line to kick clear. Substitute Andy Lomas fired over from 25 yards for Northwood, on 71 minutes. Alfie Taylor had replaced Moreman in the 65thminute and nine minutes later he scored his debut league goal for the Poppies. He race down the left, checked and lashed a right foot shot in at the far post for a spectacular goal. Kettering had two further chances. Tommy Hull headed over from a Hall corner and substitute Jonathan Thorpe saw a shot blocked. The final effort on goal saw Jamie McAlindon save from Omar Vassell.
