Match Reviews Sat 19 Oct: With the school holiday break still - TopicsExpress

Match Reviews Sat 19 Oct: With the school holiday break still having an impact on fixtures we’ve again only two senior representatives in action this Saturday. It’s interesting to note that the teams who are continuing to play are doing so with disruption to their training sessions, skeleton squads and are no doubt feeling the impact of key players being unavailable for selection - hence some odd results last weekend. Our U19s welcome fellow D1 outfit Bonnyrigg Rose to Meggetland in what could be another test of AC’s depth of squad having dropped 2 places to 9th spot after last Saturday’s surprisingly heavy defeat at the hands of Spartans Reds. At the same time Rose were taking a point off undefeated Hutchie Vale and now find themselves 1 place and 1 point above AC in what’s proving to be a very competitive league. Whilst AC concede that Bonnyrigg have bragging rights following their win at the start of the season, they may feel that home advantage could swing things in their favour – 3 points would catapult them up the table to equal 5th. Oh, and by the way ... the scorer of AC’s opener (fingers crossed) will have the honour of grabbing their 40th goal of the season. The action gets underway on the 3G at 3pm. Our U17s Blues kicked-off the season with a fine win over Spartans Blacks and their fans could be forgiven for thinking there was more to come. However, a run of defeats leaves the season opener as an isolated glimmer of hope in what has transpired to be a disappointing start to their campaign, particularly for the coaches and players. Whether you play for AC Milan or AC Oxgangs, when confidence and morale go awol results will inevitably suffer and it can take an enormous effort, with a bit of Lady Luck thrown in, to turn things around. However, doubters of the Blues’ talented coaches and players need look no further than last season’s start in which the Blues failed to win in their first four outings – and then went on to gain promotion. Last weekend they signalled a possible revival by going ahead against a much fancied Hillfield Swifts side and, despite losing, coach Malcolm Henderson described their performance as ‘much improved’. On Saturday they face another tough test in the shape of Loanhead Colts at Colinton Mains. The Colts have had a solid start to their season and have lost only one of their league outings so far – can AC build on the positives from last week’s display? If you want to find out get yourself along in time for the 2pm kick-off. Rumour has it that if they get a point the chorus of the teams’ unofficial anthem ‘Perfect’ by Pink will be heard blaring from the home changing rooms! Catch the results as soon as they come in via our website, Facebook/Twitter Pages and on our App.
