Match fixing started way back. In 1995 CAPS United Football Club were tried and found guilty of bribing two key players from lowly Chifamba Football Club to throw a Castle Cup preliminary qualifying rematch. As their main defence, United who had failed to beat the minnows in the first encounter said they had paid the players some money, but insisted that the payment was meant to lure the players to join them.
