Match report - millennium cup group game 5 Elton fold 7 Morning star 1 Elton fold got back into action after a week off at home to morning star in the cup, with Steven Cheetham Andrew Donnelly Sam Johnson and Dec Murphy all unavailable the squad saw the return of ants Murray following suspension and young Amesbury and Hobson all following injuries. Sean Horrocks once again didnt let his critics down by no showing for the third and final time this season. Fold lined up in the tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation with Coates in between the posts, Carr, Hayes Armstrong and Mcnicholas at the back, Barlow and buckers occupied the middle of midfield whilst ants Murray and Dave Murray on either flank and the firepower being provided by skipper Mcbride playing just off young! Shooting up hill first half fold where quick out the blocks, a delightful through ball fell to dave Murray whose right footed effort was thwarted by the keeper, ants Murray got in behind their left back time and time again but his crosses avoided everyone, he also sliced an effort when one on one with the keeper, the first goal was coming and fold didnt disappoint dave beat their right back for pace and fizzed a ball across the face of goal where young, ants and their centre half came together with the opposing defender cooling sliding past his own keeper 1-0 Great link up play by the front four reaped more reward when Mcbride races to the byline and unselfishly played in Scott Young for a tap in 2-0 The game was all Elton and this could be seen by Buckley and Barlow striding over the half way line creating half chances and getting us on our way but the next goal was something of pure quality ,Mike McNicholas playing in the left back role broke free with the ball and galloped over the half way line before sliding a pass in between full back and centre half for David Murray to get on the end of to cool chip over the keeper! 3-0 The half fizzled out a little after that but morning star where nearly back in it before half time when a curling shot deceived Martyn Coates and thankfully he dropped it out for a corner! Half time The message at half time was simple keep doing what we had been doing and the goals will come Dave Murray straight away added to his tally by bundling the ball home to make it 4-0 Matt McBride screwed a shot wide, young forced a good save from the keeper, ants Murray wasted a one on one before changed where made. Dave Murray was replaced by Chris hall and young was replaced by Nathan Hobson. Hobson soon was in on the act when he was cooly played in behind the centre halfs and slotted home to make it 5-0 He was then at it again holding off the defence and beating them for pace before placing the ball into the corner again 6-0 Fold then stated to get cocky and complacent and with the first really opportunity star got one back 6-1 Chris Barlow was replaced by Colin Amesbury making a return from a career threatening deep heat injury! Hobson and Mcbride where causing star all sorts of problems and creating chances galore, hall spurned three great opportunities, Armstrong headed over a corner, Amesbury flashed one across the face of goal that ants Murray couldnt connect with. The final goal came when a set piece fell to Phill Hayes just outside the area and he lashed a low drive into the corner of the goal and it was 7-1 Full time 3 valuable points in the group and good goal difference after this win! Everyone did what was asked of them and put a shift in, at times some of the football we played was fantastic and the defence looked the most assured its been all season well done and into next week
