Match report: After the splendid mutton get-together party, DPL returned to its normal pace on January 11, Sunday. The numbers were less but as usual the show had new debutants as well. Oldies won the toss and elected to bat first in the first match. Despite having bunch of pace bowlers in the side, New Gen leaked runs, Courtesy; wrong line, trying to go for extra pace and poor fielding from both old and new legs. Oldies batsmen came out handy and chasing a target of 76 was never easy. Oldies won the match convincingly. It was definitely a mediocre performance by the New Gen players. The second match had the fighting intensity at its peak. New gen bowlers were on target as oldies struggled. However Pukku bh and Atit made good contributions in the slog overs to go beyond the 50 run mark. Determined to win, New Gen got to a flying start as debutant Vishal hammered 12 runs in the first over itself. Prakash toyed with the pace of stalwart Pukku bh and the march looked quite easy at the moment. However, tight spells from Uday brought oldies back into the game, but chotu’s counter attack on Jose opened the doors yet again. With 15 required off 12, Oldies handed the ball to Manan, which turned out to be the biggest mistake of the day. The rookie bowler gave series of wides and short balls, much to the anger and screaming from his own teammates. New gen grabbed the opportunity with both hands and won the match with seven balls to spare. 1-1 was a happy, expected and desired result.
