Saturday 4 October 2014 AFC Fylde 1 Danny Rowe 36 North Ferriby United 0 Once again, Ferriby were left to rue missed chances as they went down to a single goal defeat against the league leaders. The Villagers had more attempts on goal and carried the greater threat for much of the game but there profligacy in front of goal cost them dear. The result sees The Villagers drop to tenth. The game itself was entertaining with both sides pressing forward in search of goals. Ferriby played well against the leaders and certainly deserved to take something from the game. The woodwork twice saved the home side whose keeper Ben hinchliffe made two very good saves to deny Ferriby. The Villagers started brightly with Nathan Jarman heading over before pressure from Jarman and Tom Denton forced Hinchliffe into a mistake that finally saw the ball scrambled clear. For Fylde, Michael Barnes saw a shot saved by Adam Nicklin, Ferriby then to get on top in terms of goal threats. Nicklin’s long kick was headed down by Denton to new signing Jason St Juste whose shot was superbly saved one-handed by Hinchliffe. Danny Hone’s header hit Denton and Bolder fired an angled drive at the keeper. Jarman fired a free kick into the wall and Fylde scored the opening goal from the clearance. The ball reached Richie Allen on the half-way line. He turned Louis Bruce and raced towards goal. His powerful shot was well-saved one-handed by Nicklin but unfortunately for The Villagers the ball fell to Danny Rowe who was left with a simple tap-in. On the stroke of half-time Liam King was unfortunate to see a header hit the post and go wide. The second-half was a little mor even in terms of attempts on goal but Ferriby still had more chances than Fylde. In the opening minute Hinchliffe produced a reaction one-handed save to deny Denton. Two minutes later adam Bolder fired a shot at the keeper. In reply, Allen drew a good save from Nicklin who then lost the ball as Michael Barnes chased a long clearance. Ferriby continued to press for the equaliser and Jarman saw a shot deflected for a corner. Denton had a good chance at the far post but headed Nathan Peat’s free-kick wide when well-placed. In the 90th minute Denton saw a header come off the inside of the and bounce against Hinchliffe who was fortunate to eb able to gater the ball. Deep in added time Allen shot high for the home side before forcing Nicklin into one final save, Ferriby manager Billy Heath commented, “I’m obviously disappointed with the result but pleased with the performance. Once again, we were punished for one error and for failing to take our chances. We certainly had enough opportunities to win the game. It was a good performance against a good side“ Ferriby are back in league action on Tuesday when Leamington visit the Eon Visual Media Stadium. Confidence is still high in the squad because the players know they are putting-in good performances. They would be more concerned if this was not the case and if goal-scoring opportunities were few and far between.
