Match report from Milk Cup reporter Ben Smith (@benpfsmith) Vendee FC vs County Down (0-0) Premier Section Parker Avenue, Portrush. 5pm kick off, 29th July The game began, and in fact remained, very evenly. Both teams nervously refusing to play the ball on the ground, preferring instead to play long balls and compete in the air. Both teams put in several very strong challenges early on, eager to impose their authority on the fixture. Unfortunately this meant that the match was very stop, start with neither teams able to gain any sort of rhythm, both looking lethargic at times. Vendee aimed to change this by introducing 3 new players at half time, County Down employing similar tactics making 1 change. The French team did inject more energy into their game in the second half, but the rain began to fall heavily, which made it difficult for both teams. There were not too many clear cut chances, in fact the number of fouls in the game outweighed the number of shots on target, however this went to demonstrate how evenly matched the 2 sides were. Both teams tried to push forward for a winner, but they cancelled each other out, both sets of defence standing up well to the pressure they were put under. No team could find that spark of magic to win the game, with it ending 0-0. Despite the goalless draw both teams are happy to be here and confident for the rest of the week. Vendee management commenting that "the hope is to do well in a competition of the highest level." Players to watch • Antoine Vine (Vendee). The Vendee centre back was dominant in the air and read the ball well ensuring that he was always well positioned to deal with any threats. Ben Smith @benpfsmith
