Handsworth Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division Kenilworth had the much better of the game and deservedly took most of the spoils with a winning draw. The side posted 252-10 thanks to a solid 5th batting 136 run partnership between Neil Goodman and Chris Prophet 60. Goodman’s innings included 8 boundaries and 5 sixes whilst Prophet hit 8 boundaries. This was after the foundations has been laid by Adie Sellar who hit 28 and Dave Edmunds 29. Smith took 4-56 and Johnson 3-28 for Handsworth who could only make 226-9 in reply thanks to some tight Kenilworth bowling and fielding. Despite Weinand making 85, Dawkins 49 and Buchannan 36 the side had been unable to keep up with the required run rate as Phil Edmonds took 3-55. Tom Pope 2-56 and Dave Edmunds 2-28 whilst Goodman and Joe Boyle each took a wicket to give the side the majority of the points. Kenilworth 2nd XI v. Aston Warwickshire Cricket League Division 2 Kenilworth’s last pair of Jeff Stanners and Ali Peebles batted out the last 3 overs of the match to ensure the side was not defeated after Aston had earlier posted 230-9. Massam made 55, Babar and Zaman both 34 and Afzal 29 for the hosts as Charlie Stranks took 3-60, Peebles 2-30, Geoff Edmunds 2-52 and Steve Rhodes 1-26 for Kenilworth. Keeper Mark Stranks took two sharp stumpings. In reply, although Sid Hegde made a very confident 40, Charlie Stranks 36, dad Mark 23 and Rhodes 34, wickets tumbled in the tail and it was left to the last pair veterans to hang on and see the side to safety and end the day on 183-9 after W. Hussain had taken 5-35 and P. Hussain 3-38 for Aston. Kenilworth 3rd XI v. Cookhill Cotswold Hills Cricket League Division 7 The 3rd XI season continues to impress hugely as they recorded their 4th consecutive victory. This time Cookhill were thrashed by 10 wickets as the Kenilworth bowlers were on song and skittled the side out for 69 inside 20 overs. The young bowlers all took wickets as colt Jon Mortlock took 3-18, skipper Sam Leach 3-19, Danny Boneham 3-20 and Jonno Sparks 1-7. It took Kenilworth only 14 overs to reach 71-0 as Dave Howe made an unbeaten 34 and debutant Vee Bora 30 not out as the side strolled to an easy win. Sunday match Kenilworth v. Southam 40 over friendly The Kenilworth Sunday XI enjoyed a 3 wicket win in their 40 overs a side friendly match against Southam who had posted 198-9 thanks to Wilkins hitting 65, Williams 51, Thornton 27 and Preston 26. Kenilworth’s bowlers were on song as youngster Ryan Bull snapped up a fine 4-44 whilst Jorjeet Singh took a haul of 4-30 whilst Charlie Stranks chipped in with a wicket. In reply, Kenilworth reached 199-9 with 2 3 overs to spare thanks to the efforts of youngster Dan Horner who guided the side home with a fine unbeaten 61 after Ian Summers had earlier made 41 and Chris Prophet 34 as the wickets were shared around by the Southam bowlers.
