Mathematics is an integral part of all of our lives. We seamlessly draw upon our understanding of Mathematical concepts and skills during a range of day to day problem solving activities. For example whilst paying for items at a supermarket we use our understanding of number and engage in addition and subtraction, whilst organising our day we use our understanding of time and whilst preparing food our ability to estimate and measure proves to be invaluable. In the same way young children use their understanding of Mathematics as they work and play in the learning areas established in our Early Years classroom. We are acutely aware of the fact that Mathematical concepts need to be introduced and that childrens learning needs to be supported, this is done through carefully crafted Mathematical sessions during which our teachers work closely with small groups and individuals as they practice and master key concepts and skills. How technology enhances the experience: The young child of the 21st century has been dubbed the digital native and using technology is a natural part of this childs life. Young children in our enhanced environment use tablet PCs to look for information, solve numerical problems, learn about weight, numbers, measures, shape and space and practice a range of skills all in a fun and exciting manner.
