Mats Mythbuster Golf Edition Myth: Most golfers hit the ball - TopicsExpress

Mats Mythbuster Golf Edition Myth: Most golfers hit the ball over 275-300+ yards off the tee. The R and A has been studying this since 1999. And they have compiled driving averages from various sources. The most relevant to me is the following: If you are a 5 or better handicap, meaning you shoot around 77 most of the time, these people average 240 yards off the tee. These are arguably the best ball strikers in the world as their handicaps indicate. They have gone further to predict the average distance for all golfers worldwide. They concluded that the average distance for golfers worldwide would be approx. 207 yards. If the top 3 percent of golfers (Golfers who shoot 77 or better) in the world average 240 yards off the tee, I wonder what the average of just the other 97% would be. It would be under 200 yards I would suspect. Are you in that group? So please keep things in perspective when you are taking up the game. Not everyone bombs it like a pro. Play from the proper tees and you will enjoy the game so much more. The sooner you can come to terms with your true driving distance ability, the sooner you will find enjoyment from the game.
