Matt. 27: 41” Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.” (The religious leaders of Judaism wouldnt let up while Jesus hung on the cross dying in indescribable torture and suffering. They mock for him to save Himself. Jesus had said “to save people” was His stated purpose for coming Lk. 19:10. Jesus name itself means Saviour Matt. 1:23. Of course they were not talking about being saved from sin and its punishment. They were talking about being saved from whatever is a great challenge to someone. Here it was Jesus saving Himself from the physical torture of the cross. They once and for all thought they had Jesus. Now let everyone see his claims were false by taunting Him and demanding that He save Himself if He is Messiah, Saviour and King. Jesus said though we are not saved from death in the life, We are not even saved from suffering. We are saved from sin’s punishment and from eternity in Hell for eternity in Heaven. Jesus said that one could be saved from destruction in this life and be punished all eternity in Hell Matt. 10:28. People today may turn to God to get them out of a jam or for good fortune. This is a shallow understanding of what Jesus came to do. Jesus said in the world we will have tribulation Matt. 16:31. Christ is the eternal Saviour. He saved us from our sin by His staying on the cross, God’s love and justice demanded that He stay on the cross and save us from our sins by dying in our place. God’s salvation goes beyond what we can see, feel and understand in this life. Jesus purchased our eternal salvation and confirmed that by not only saving His body in the resurrection but completely transforming it into an incorruptible body and promising that to all believers.. That is not only saving us but redeeming us for all eternity.)
