Matt Nickerson back at Fife Flyers for next season. fifeflyers.co.uk/index.php/fife-flyers-news/latest-news/718-fan-favourite-nickerson-returns Fife Flyers are delighted to confirm that fan favourite Matt Nickerson will return for a second season with the Flyers. The 6’4 240lbs defenceman from the USA made a huge impact across the league during his debut season in 2013/14 and he is delighted to be back with the Flyers for the 2014/15 season. With a wealth of experience having played in the Liiga, Allsvenskan, ECHL and AHL, we are sure the Flyers fans will be delighted to see him back in the EIHL donning the Flyers #50 jersey once again. With 301 penalty minutes last season, Matt was one of the toughest players in the Gardiner Conference and across the EIHL, creating a buzz on the ice and sending the home and away fans into a frenzy! Not only was Matt an outstanding figure on the ice but off the ice he was one of the leading advocates of the Flyers in the Community Programme as well as taking on many of the Flyers fundraising challenges, including his own event when he shaved off his iconic beard to raise money for CHAS. Through the beard shave and his wife cutting off her hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust, between them they raised almost £4000 for CHAS. A selfless character with a no nonsense attitude, Matt is looking forward to getting back on the ice after the summer break. Matt Nickerson had the following to say on returning to Fife “I am super excited to be back with the Flyers this season. I really enjoyed my time with the club last season. It will be nice to see so many familiar faces in the dressing room and of course I can’t wait to get back in front of the loyal Flyers fans!” Associate Coach Danny Stewart added “This was a no brainer for us. Matt gives us a presence on the ice that is irreplaceable. He can play in all situations and is solid for us defensively.” “We will have a lot of skill up front and he helps with providing those guys with some added space. He is a great team-mate and a big character in our dressing room. We are excited to have him back and he will play a big part in our goals for the upcoming season!” Head Coach Todd Dutiaume added “Matt is hugely popular with his team mates and fans alike. Im sure its no surprise to anyone that Matt was a priority for us to have back in the line up. “He not only brought a physical element to our game that we havent had in the past but also was relied on in all situations. I think Matts presence makes the old barn just a touch louder and hope that the fans will be in full force on opening night.” Are you ready to rock the auld barn?
