Matt Walsh: 9/4/14 It will be interesting to see the reaction to this post. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect. Joel Osteen is a popular man, and for all I know many of you are quite fond of him. That seems somewhat unlikely, as Osteen and myself are, in many ways, the antithesis of each other. But at least we share this trait: neither of us are pastors (although one us claims to be). A few days ago video surfaced of Victoria Osteen, Joels wife, exhorting the audience to do good for your own self, not God, and to even worship God for yourself. The backlash has been pretty severe, and for good reason. But its important for us to note that this isnt just some isolated, out-of-context quote. The Osteens have been preaching these heresies for years. They are apostates and heretics. The message they send might be uplifting and inspirational but it is directly opposed to the Gospel.
