Matthew 27:27-32 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus - TopicsExpress

Matthew 27:27-32 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. -At the risk of airing too much dirty laundry, it is important to share that my parents have spent many years traveling the paths of sin at the expense of those around them. Over the past decade or so, their actions have been the catalyst for dimming my spiritual light and even stirring up my flesh on more than one occasion (many more). The weight of my parents sin is heavy and I often struggle with why I should be made to carry it. This brings me to todays section of scripture. I never quite understood that since Jesus is destined to carry all of our sins, why wouldnt the Father give Him the strength to carry the cross the whole way? I was struggling with my burden this week when the Lord brought me to Simon the Cyrenian; when the Romans pulled him out of the crowd to help carry Jesus cross, he probably had many of the same thoughts that I have had and that any of us have when we are affected by the sin of those around us- Why me? Why should I be made to carry this awful burden? Even though he only had to carry it for a short time, it must have felt terrible and shameful. The Lord helped me to realize that Simon of Cyrene is in the Bible not because Jesus needed help carrying the cross, but because God knew that even though Jesus shoulders the burden of all sin, there will come times in our short lives here on Earth where we will need to shoulder the weight of anothers mistakes. It may feel terrible and even shameful, but remember, you are not doing it for the sake of those who have done wrong, you are doing it for Jesus!
