Matthew 6:11—“Give us this day our daily bread.” The Greek - TopicsExpress

Matthew 6:11—“Give us this day our daily bread.” The Greek word translated as “daily bread,” means, “sufficient sustenance for this time.” This is consistent with the human outlook on “bread” across cultures all over the world. There is not one culture, anywhere, in which bread only means, “that loaf-y thing made with ground grain that tastes really good, and goes with virtually every meal there is.” This verse is part of what is called “The Lord’s Prayer.” It would be more accurate to call it “The Disciples Pattern for Prayer.” Jesus told His disciples to pray “after this manner. We are not going into the whole of it, just now, just this one verse.
