Matthew 6:19-24, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon - TopicsExpress

Matthew 6:19-24, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. We often divide life into 2 broad categories: the spiritual, and the material. But the Lord Jesus never made that distinction. As a matter of fact, He often taught that our attitude toward the material is a mark of your true spirituality. Jesus can look at our checkbook for the last 30 days and tell where we are spiritually…not only by what we return to Him, but also by our stewardship of the rest of HIS money…the ‘things’ we place such importance upon. There is nothing wrong with either poverty or wealth. There’s nothing spiritual about either being poor or being wealthy. There’s nothing wrong with things in and of themselves. In fact, the Bible teaches us in 1 Timothy 6:17 that God gives us richly all things to enjoy. The real question is, Do I own my possessions, or do they own me?
