Matthew Stever· Montgomery, AL · Im a bit saddened and pissed off at the same time. Braylon got to start school at a more therapy based school this week. Many of the children in Brays class are very disabled, medically fragile, and non-verbal. Being an involved parent I go inside to drop Braylon off at his class and make small talk with the staff. Ive noticed several of the kids arrive on private buses. I found out today that all the children, except Bray and one little girl, live in care facilities. Did you get that? These children live in nursing home type care facilities. Let that sink in for a minute. These are five and six year old children. Apparently a few have minor contact with a family member, most have no contact. I knew this took place. I guess seeing and touching one of these children was a changing event for me. Wheres the out pouring of care for these children? It the whole of our selfish, self-centered, crap society. Out of sight out of mind, not my problem mentality. I dont know that I have a point, maybe just a rant from frustration. Maybe if people spent a part of their time helping the weakest and most vulnerable people it would create a change in our society thats long over due. Im glad to have this experience, but Ill be damned if it doesnt piss me off that this situation exists in the first place. Every child deserves a home and the love of a family.
