Matthew is depressed the past few days. After a wonderful week and weekend with hi younger sister, she went home and back to work. Matthew misses her a lot. Matthew does not want to get out of bed, his stress induced fevers have returned for the first time since we withdrew him from school in Texas, and his behavior is grumpy, not wanting to do anything. The good thing now is Matthew’s kittens have helped me a lot. The bother Matthew in the morning, walking on top of him back and forth, meowing continuously at him until he wakes up and goes downstairs to play with them. The kittens are incredibly in tune with Matthew’s feelings and moods. When he is down, like yesterday and today, they behave like puppies. The two of them run all over the house, pulling strings and yarn, pushing Matthew to play with them. If Matthew sits and watches TV they jump up in his lap and meow at him, asking him play with them. I have never seen kittens or cats behave this way before, more like a dog than a cat. Matthew also talks with me about his feelings and I listen very carefully to what he has to say. Matthew has told me he is sad and wants to be with his sister. He understands she has to go to work, but wish she lived nearby. I promised him, if everything is ok, we will go see his younger sister during the weekend. Consequently, this afternoon Matthew started coming out of his depression after I spoke with him. I always listen respectfully to Matthew, no matter what he has on his mind, from the small to the large.
