Maui surf oct 11th: The combination of a moderate to large - TopicsExpress

Maui surf oct 11th: The combination of a moderate to large mid-period north-northwest swell and large short-period northeasterly windswell will provide our north shores with large and unruly surf at well above head-high levels. Wet weather and strong northeast tradewinds will blow out the conditions even further, so don’t expect anything good. Dangerous currents are likely, so use your head before paddling out, and know your limits. This pattern should stick around through Monday and possibly Tuesday. A larger north swell is expected to arrive overnight Tuesday into Wednesday which will very likely raise the warning flags. A new low pressure system is expected to develop far north of the islands later Monday, setting up a long and wide fetch aimed very well toward Hawai`i. This energy should arrive as early as overnight Tuesday but will definitely be here Wednesday morning. The close proximity of this storm and strong winds will result in large to extra-large short-mid period surf along our winter shores, and it will be quite dangerous, so please don’t paddle out unless you can handle it. A secondary swell is appearing on the models which would arrive around Thursday to keep the high surf going through the remainder of the week and into the weekend. Looking further into the forecast is too uncertain at this time.
