Maui surf oct 31st: We will continue to see a series of good northwest swells over the next several days. Today should offer a combination of west-northwest and northwest swell peaking near advisory levels at the better breaks. The biggest issue with this swell will be island shadowing from Moloka`i, so use your head when you search for a good spot to paddle out. Another round of west-northwest to more northwesterly swell is expected to arrive as early as late Thursday, but will more likely fill in Friday, again near or potentially reaching advisory levels. This energy should then slowly fade through the weekend before another northwest swell arrives late Sunday into Monday. The swell arriving today was produced by the remnants of a pair of extratropical typhoons. Thursday’s swell was produced when another low developed near the Kuril Islands late last weekend with a fast easterly track and a fetch of strong gales. The models are showing a low developing far southwest of Kamchatka Thursday with a east-northeasterly track. If all goes well, this storm should be able to whip up a northwest swell expected to arrive later Sunday. It’s still too early for confidence on wave heights, but at the moment it looks like more near to just above advisory level surf can be anticipated.
