Mauro Mevlud Mauro Martino (4 of my novels are available in paperback and kindle... a book of poems that i have written over the past 40 years and illustrated should be available in the summer of 2015) About me, I was born in Calabria, southern Italy on March 29th 1953. A year later, with my parents I arrived in Toronto, Canada. It was there that I learned to live inside different cultures that created a diverse world in my mind, there that I married and had 2 children, since divorced, and there that I taught high school English for 25 years. Now, 60 years old, and after having included Istanbul since 2004 as one of my residences, and reflecting back on a life that experienced much more than family and profession, I continue to wonder and write. Description of my writing Magical/psychological realism ... everything appears as real and as wonderful as a happy dream ... only, after you wake up, or you stop reading, you wonder what happened... in a world of wacky characters, in settings from New York to Istanbul to Morocco and Romania, in settings that both exist or appear to exist, always the characters wander through inward and outer streets that explore the theme of love and fate, choices that have been made, and ultimately a birth that is inside the light and out from the physical womb of the human mother ... with unique writing that can be both mainstream and yet have much appeal to those who like to enjoy a vision that usually has to do with similar oriented people that are attuned to the same drummer, or people who are metal filings and are attracted to one big magnet, mauro (Mevlud) martino would like to think that he is a metal filing attracted to the universal filing and can find kinship with other such oriented people but who would also like and appreciate the friendship of wood chips, plastic pieces, glass fragments and the whole shebang called humanity ... in his work, he hopes all of the metal filings, wood chips, plastic pieces and fragments can rejoice, find a common denominator, join in chorus and sing everything is beautiful... the people who live in his novels are unmistable, clash outwardly and inwardly, and catch the imagination of realism as aristotle would describe it, and realism as plato would speak describe it, but for sure as marc chagall would paint it ... in other words, his writing is about as real as the place were the reader is ... after many novels, all the characters are enmeshed in the fictional aspect of life called non fiction, and in the non fiction of trying to sort out what is and what is not while their wacky but wonderful brains clink and toast to all that is called the soul ...
