Mavericks Dec. 20, 2014 The following video is a loosely edited collection of all of the waves, no matter how big or small, that I documented on December 20, 2014 at Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, CA. All footage was shot at 60fps 1920x1080 (so I can make it look really nice in slomo). Special thanks to Hideshiro Minami for the use of his ski and for his expert driving along with Tom Murach. These images would not be possible without their skills. I know its not usual for a photographer or videographer to publish their entire take, however, as a professor of video journalism at San Francisco State University, I chose to share this remarkable day for the fans of the wave, but mostly for the surfers who braved the lineup. I hope that you will enjoy watching your waves, and I hope that seeing all of the rides will help you learn more about the wave and how your peers ride it. I also chose to keep the waves that I filmed badly so that documentarians can learn from my mistakes (sorry Nic Lamb and Emi Erickson!!!). If you caught a wave before 8:30AM (Jamie Mitchell you are a legend!) I am very sorry that I had not gotten out on the water yet. However, I am certain that someone documented it! Please excuse the potty mouth throughout, but I also chose to keep the nat sound because hearing Mavericks (when Im not hooting and hollering) is almost as thrilling as seeing it.
