Max Ehrlich, German-Jewish comedian and actor, in a clip from one - TopicsExpress

Max Ehrlich, German-Jewish comedian and actor, in a clip from one of his 42 films (10 of which he directed). In this scene romance is in the air, but can Max successfully turn his attention away from his food? Also important in the cabaret and comedy scene, Max Ehrlich was a German superstar of the entertainment industry. We wish this post could remain humorous. After the Nazi seizure of power Max performed with the Juedische Kulturbund until 1939, when he fled to Amsterdam where he resumed his career in cabaret. In 1943 he was deported to Westerbork. He performed in the camp cabaret there, with other prisoners, for the amusement of the S.S. and Jews working in the administration of the transit camp. This protected him from deportation until September 1944, when he was deported to Auschwitz. Recognized on arrival at the camp, he was forced to tell jokes to S.S. officers pointing loaded guns at him. He survived this torture, but was gassed a few weeks after his arrival.
