Max Update: So ever since the surgery, Max has been drinking a lot - TopicsExpress

Max Update: So ever since the surgery, Max has been drinking a lot of water, more than he ever used to, and as a result, peeing in the house a bit. Yet at night he sleeps in his bed next to Remy and me and he lasts the whole night. Two weeks ago we did blood work and a sterile urinalysis. Everything is normal but the Creatine Levels. We have ruled out diabetes, but higher Creatine levels points to kidneys. So I looked back at blood tests from Sept and from Nov on the day he had surgery. Both were at normal levels of 1.7. The blood test from two weeks ago was 2.2 and today was 2.3. Ive noticed in the past week, and so has the vet, that Maxs looks better, but that may just be the healing from the surgery and getting used to our move on Jan. 1. He is still on one drug from the surgery that hes supposed to stay on for the rest of his life, its an anti-seizure med called Zonisamide. He has a full healthy appetite and I see no other kidney failure signs. I would like to lower his dosage of Zonisamide but I have to talk to the neurologist first. Personally, I think its this drug, but my neurologist says he has never seen this side effect and gives it to all his brain surgery dogs. My problem is this issue started the day I got him back from surgery. The day before, Max was fine. Does this kind of problem happen that quickly? Any ideas? Thanks! Also, my vet wants to put Max on Royal Canin Veterniary Diet canine Renal MP 14 Modified. Has anybody used this food? Does it help or is it just a way for a vet to make money?
